24/7 in home care search, need advice

Main Post:

My grandparents live in rural Midwest about an hour from a mid-size city. Their town is about 6,000 people. They want someone to live with them 24/7 or as close to 24/7 as possible. They both have cancer and a variety of mobility issues as regular 90 year olds do. Needs include: general housekeeping, medicine monitoring, driving to appointments, meal prep, and a watchful eye. Money is unlimited.

If you were me, where would you begin to look? What is your biggest piece of advice? Your input is greatly appreciated.

Top Comment: Are they extremely wealthy? Bc this is a very big ask and would technically require like a team of 8 people working 40 hour weeks to accomplish Anyone who is game for it for a reasonable price, there’s risk of them taking advantage in a variety of ways, even if they start w good intentions

Which is more affordable, 24/7 home healthcare or an assisted living facility

Main Post:

Mom's Alzheimer's is progressing to the point where she needs one of the aforementioned options. She currently resides in NY state, and I live in Maine. She owns her home and it is paid in full. Either she continues to live in her home with 24/7 care, or I move her to an assisted living facility in Maine (closer to me). Grateful for any feedback.

Top Comment: Assisted living is much more affordable and reliable. We attempted home healthcare (not 24/7), and the hired people would no show so often. It just wasn't reliable. Going through a company would be more reliable, but that also almost doubles the price.

Should Purdue have a 24/7 urgent care center that is on campus/within walking distance?

Main Post:

Instead of trekking over to Arnett or St. Elizabeth East, you could go here for your non-life threatening problems. I'm guessing PUSH wouldn't like the competition, but they aren't open 24/7 anyways. The urgent care centers already in WL aren't 24/7, and they aren't close enough to campus IMO.

Top Comment:

I'd certainly be in favor of this, especially because it would be relatively easy to integrate a 24/7 sexual assault resource center into an always open healthcare facility, and Purdue really, really needs one.

ELI5: Why are there no 24 hour doctor offices in the USA?

Main Post:

Wouldn't this bring down overall healthcare costs along with giving PAYING customers an option to receive timely healthcare versus waiting in an ER for hours on end?

Top Comment: We have ones... they are called ERs/Hospitals. If you are waiting for hours in the ER its because your condition is deemed unimportant/low priority. Forgive the doctors but they are a little more focused on the guy bleeding out of his eyeballs than the guy who is unlikely to die in the next 12 hours.
